Facebook has stolen my life. You can find on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/str8edgedave.

I've also been busy with other projects that have kept me away from blogging. I'll be working on getting some new content posted shortly.

Out With Some Friends

Went out for snacks and some drinks with some friends tonight. All of us are pretty die hard Linux or Open Source users, so of course, the conversation was pretty geek oriented. A good time was had, and plans are being made to make this a semi-regular occurrence.

PSN Level 11 – Heavy Rain edition

Heavy Rain Box ArtHeavy Rain is a game that has been sucking my time like no other.. I pre-ordered the game based on some of the hype before the demo was released. When I played the demo I just about transferred the pre-order to Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, but decided against it once some of the initial reviews came out. The game is basically a modern twist on an old school Sierra On-Line or LucasArts animated adventure, think Kings Quest or Day of the Tentacle. On top of the normal quest component of the game is the interaction method.

Interactions are best described as Quick Time Events, similar to the end of a boss fight in the God of War series, but instead of pushing the Triangle, Square, X or Circle buttons in the right sequence you may also have to press and hold them in order, bump or nudge the controller in the right direction, turn the controller like a steering wheel, or move the right stick in a specified manner. Not your typical quick time event. The voice acting is a little weak in comparison to some of the other games I have played, but the game was made by is out of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, so masking the accents could be to blame.

While I was playing Heavy Rain, I also reached level 11 on the PSN, with 580 trophies.

Uptimes

At work today I had to reboot 4 servers that are part of a system. The last time they were rebooted was almost 1.5 years ago:

1
2
% uptime
  9:12pm  up 456 day(s), 18:58,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.01

Unix is cool.

Playstation Network & website.

I log into to Sony's US and UK websites today to update the 2 Portable ID gamer cards on my Gaming page, and notice that the US card has changed from a black background to a silver one. Upon clicking on the US gamer card, the link appears to be broken. When I checked my link against what Sony had for the US Portable ID, the link code had changed. Two seconds later, I had corrected the link. It still doesn't work. As much as I prefer my PS3 over the Xbox360, Microsoft seems to get the Xbox Live service right more often than Sony does with the PSN.

Oddysseys completed, in more than one way.

Finished 2 odysseys in the last 24 hours. Last night I completed reading 3001, the fourth book in the 2001/2010/2061/3001 series. When I think back at how hard the 2 movies were to watch, then realize how much enjoyment I got out of the books, I shake my head in wonder and disbelief. I haven't watched 2001/2010 in about 10 years, so I may have to attempt watching the movies again.

My second odyssey was completing Dante's Inferno. A lot of fun to play and fairly easy to get the platinum trophy. There are 5 trophies that could be considered hard at first glance. Once you get into the game and you search thoroughly, 4 trophies drop off the list. The last one which appears hard to complete is get a 666 hit combo. Its one of the easier ones to get, but it takes the longest. On your second play through, when you hit Malebolge 1, set the difficulty to Infernal, and use "Sins Of The Father" to get the 666 combo. I was able to complete Malebolge 1 in about 30 seconds. It works better if Sins Of The Father is powered up.

So one more novel completed, one more game done, time to pick a new book and find a new game.

Dante’s Inferno: Take 2

I've almost completed my first play through of Dante's Inferno. And my opinion of the game has changed a little. It is more like God Of War than I originally thought. Not that its a bad thing, but with God of War 3 just around the corner, I hope that I'm not sick of the "Hack-and-slash" genre by then..
